Consider Northwinds Adventures for your next big family get away!

Family vacations are becoming more and more popular these days.  I’m not talking about your garden variety, “Mom, Dad and the kids go camping” family vacation.  I’m talking about the ENTIRE family:  Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, Aunt, Uncle, Cousins…EVERYONE!  It’s common to see groups of extended family all heading to the same destination at the same time.  It’s a great way to travel and can be very economical if it’s planned right.

No matter what time of the year you are considering a group vacation, Northwinds Adventures is a perfect destination to host your extended family or large group.

Our brand new and newly renovated vacation homes boast the following amenities:  8 Bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and 4 fully stocked modern kitchens, all on 220 beautiful acres just 7 minutes outside of downtown Houghton MI.  In addition to the 8 bedrooms, there are also pull out sofas, futons and Cabelas Deluxe Outfitters cots for additional sleeping capacity.  At certain times of the year, you may even have access to a 2 bedroom heated and insulated bunkhouse that sleeps 8 people as well as our unique canvas wall tent villages (great for those adventurous teenagers in the family who’d like a little space of their own!).  Free time can be enjoyed hiking, mountain biking and snowshoeing our private network of over 5  miles of trails traversing the property.

The above cabins are open all 4 seasons and have A/C in the summer and cozy wood stoves for the cold weather months.  All 4 cabins can be rented for a total of $1000 per night with a 3 night minimum (peak season rates) with discounts available from Oct 31 – Dec 15 and April 1 – May 15.  Compare that to what it would cost you for hotel rooms and that might get you 5-6 rooms at best!

Where the highway ends: Northwinds Adventures offers guided UTV tours

033

Are you making the trip to the Houghton area and looking for something fun to do that takes you038 off the beaten path? Copper Harbor lies about 45 miles northeast of Northwinds Adventures and marks the northern most point of Highway 41. If you choose, you can turn right around and head 1990 miles south,  ending up in Miami, FL. However, if you have a taste for adventure, you can explore beyond Copper Harbor, past the end of Highway 41 and see some very cool, interesting (not to mention gorgeous) sites. Even though the paved highway ends, there is a substantial network of trails, gravel and 019logging roads to be explored, some of which lead right up to the waters edge! With a Jeep, truck or other high clearance vehicle, much of this area is accessible to you. However, if you are reluctant to t020ake your sedan or minivan into an area that may lay claim to your muffler or bumper, consider booking a guided UTV tour with Northwinds Adventures. Our late model Kawasaki Teryx 4’s are capable and comfortable and can get you to places that would otherwise be very difficult to access. You’ll see Horseshoe Harbor, The Point Trail, High Rock Bay, the NASA Missile Launch Site, Keystone Bay and Fishermans Cove. Generally the tour takes about 4 hours. Even though we’ll be doing the driving, you’re the boss!  If you’d like to ling030er on a beach and look for the ever elusive Lake Superior Agate or simply sit back and relax and listen to the waves, you are welcome to do so.  We’ll meet you at the trailhead in Copper Harbor so you’ll have your vehicle for shopping and dining once the tour is over.  We can take 3 passengers on one machine, if you require more seats, we’ll take two! Tours will be offered into the fall until the weather no longer cooperates and will begin after the snow leaves in Spring.  Contact Rob if you’d like to discuss dates and rates!  rozarowicz@gmail.com  ph. 920 621 2176

Northwinds Adventures hosts St Peter and Paul 150th Anniversary Celebration

Word is starting to get out about the property at Northwinds Adventures and how perfect it is to host a large gathering in the Houghton, MI area.  On July 23rd, Northwinds Adventures hosted the 150th Anniversary celebration of local church, St. Peter and Paul.  About 300 people turned out to help celebrate the event and although the day started out gray and a little on the cool side, the clouds eventually gave way to some sun and warmer temps in the afternoon, allowing many folks to enjoy the beautiful waterfront area.

A pig roast, a dozen smoked turkeys and a huge pot luck made up the wonderful meal, served buffet style in the beachside event center.  A large event tent was provided by Superior Event Rentals of Houghton MI and entertainment was provided by recording artist, Tony Memmel.

If you are looking for a unique location for your group event, contact Rob at Northwinds Adventures to talk about the endless possibilities.  Whether you are planning a wedding, family reunion, corporate retreat or company picnic, Northwinds Adventures will help make it memorable!022 023 024 025 026 032 033 034 035 036

Winter Fat Biking in the Keweenaw Peninsula

013 244 245Fat Bikes have been steadily gaining in popularity over the last few years and we decided to rent a couple last weekend for some fun on the Northwinds Adventures property. Although we have not been grooming trails specifically for winter riding, we discovered that our snow track clad Jeep makes excellent bike tracks! It didn’t take long to realize that we need to add a couple of fat tire equipped bikes to our gear wish list. It was an absolute blast! If you are planning a trip to the Keweenaw Peninsula, there are a few local trail options to check out (Michigan Tech trails in Houghton, Churning Rapids in Hancock and Swedetown in Calumet). Cross Country Sports in Calumet rents quality fat tire bikes for $30 per day if you are curious and want to see what the fuss is all about. If you are staying with us at Northwinds Adventures, let us know ahead of time if you are bringing your fat bike and we will make some trails on the property especially for you! With 220 private acres, we’ve got plenty of room!

Northwinds Adventures is a great destination for all your winter pursuits!
